Mini concert for families 1

Music exists for the audience. Each musician has a target audience. I particularly love to play for kids and families, among others…

Saturday, March 14th, I was lucky enough to participate in a very nice project called “Música pra ti” (Music for you) by CCB, Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon.

This project created by the great music educator Madalena Wallenstein who is in charge of the coordination of Fábrica das Artes, the education service from CCB.

Música pra ti is a series of mini concerts that are not longer than 20 minutes and normally are performed by just one or two musicians in an intimate environment for families. The main purpose is to provide a quality listening time for the kids. The truth is that after 20 minutes they start moving more in their places. After this time there is a space for questions to the musician. It is really a great project.

For the concert I invited Rui Aires, a friend for some years. Rui plays a Saraz Handpan, didgeridoo and guitar. I invited him to bring his percussion and strings to join my winds. We prepared some solos and some duos and we had an amazing moment with those families and kids, both while playing as answering curious questions about our instruments.

It was a great moment and it’s incredible to see the work that these people are doing with their audience. Congratulations to the host team for making everything just perfect.
